Louisiana mobile sports betting operators generated a $368.3 million betting handle in October 2024, a 33.3% increase year over year and a 15.1% jump month over month. The retail sports betting handle also rose by 6.1% month over month and 3.7% year over year.
However, the Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB) data showed that revenues took a big hit across both sectors despite the rise in the betting handle. Mobile sportsbooks revenues fell by 13.1% month-on-month to $41 million, even though they increased slightly year-on-year by 4.7%.
Retail sportsbooks generated just over $477,00 in revenues, with sportsbooks losing more than $800,000 on baseball wagers. That figure was a considerable fall from the $5.3 million collected in September 2024 and $3.3 million in October 2023.
The October sports betting numbers starkly contrast the September 2024 figures, which marked the silver lining on a month where gaming revenue fell in every other sector.
Riverboat casinos in LA generated $134.2 million in revenue, according to an LGCB report, a 3.5% increase from September and a 1.3% jump from October 2023. Lake Charles casinos drove that growth, bringing in $51.9 million of that total. Louisiana’s two highest-earning casinos were in Lake Charles, Golden Nugget Lake Charles ($23.9 million) and L’Auberge Lake Charles ($22.6 million).
