Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has said he does not support the legalization of online casino gambling in the state.
Speaking at his annual visit to the Ohio State Fair, DeWine said that the state probably has enough gambling as it is and would not support bills put forward by the state Senate and House to expand gambling further.
While the governor did not fully commit to vetoing any future bills, DeWine expressed his concerns about constant access to online gambling.
”Basically, to put a casino in everybody’s hands, 24/7, I think is probably not a great idea. And I think it will cause more pain and suffering, as far as gaming addiction,” he commented.
These comments come as lawmakers consider SB 197, a bill to legalize online casino gambling. Senate President Rob McColley had previously said they want to take their time making the decision to make sure they get it right.
DeWine said he would ”look at everything individually” regarding a proposal allowing social areas like bars and restaurants to offer their customers video lottery terminals and expand e-bingo machines.
