The Ohio Casino Control Commission has released its revenue figures for legal sports betting and casino gaming in October 2024. The sports betting handle reached $901.4 million, its second-highest total since online sports betting launched in January 2023. This marks a 20.6% increase year-on-year and a jump of 4.5% from September 2024.
Meanwhile, casino operators generated over $83 million in revenues, a 4.6% increase year-on-year and a 1.7% jump from the month prior.
Sports Betting Revenues Drop Amid Near Record High Handle
Despite the vast sports betting handle, sports betting revenues dropped significantly in October 2024 to nearly $81.5 million from almost $106.2 million the month prior. The October 2024 figure did climb from almost $80.6 million generated in October 2023, but that figure came from a much lower handle of over $746.3 million.
Many other US states showed a similar trend in October, with sports betting handles increasing thanks to the return of the NBA, NHL, and continuation of the NFL, but revenues falling thanks to bettor-friendly results. Ohio was one of the few to show year-on-year revenue improvement.
