The American Gaming Association released its report on US gaming in Q4 2024 and 2024 as a whole, revealing operators generated gross gaming revenue of $71.92 billion across all verticals.
Most of this came through land-based gambling operations, including land-based casinos and retail sportsbooks, providing 70% of the total through $50.32 billion. Online gaming through sportsbooks and casinos added the remaining 30%, contributing $21.54 billion in revenues.
However, online gaming was responsible for the record-breaking total, with online sports betting “driven almost entirely by online betting in 2024.” While land-based gaming only grew 0.6% year-on-year, online gaming, online gaming increased by 24.6%.
Additionally, there are now 13 US states, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Michigan, where more gambling revenue comes from online verticals than land-based properties.
Online sports betting saw a 2024 handle of $147.91 billion, an increase of 23.6%. More than 95% of this spending came from online sports betting sites. Sports betting revenue grew by 25.4% to reach $13.71 billion.
Meanwhile, online casino gaming generated $8.41 billion in 2024, with $2.38 billion coming in Q4. Online casino revenue increased by 33.1% compared to Q4 last year and 28.7% in 2024 as a whole.
